About Lloyds TSB Local Heroes

For every Olympic medallist, there are thousands of genuine hopefuls struggling, without recognition or funding.

These young athletes are forced to juggle intense training and competition commitments with studies and sometimes work. In many ways, this is the toughest stage of the athlete’s journey.

Lloyds TSB Local Heroes has been set up to help more of those young hopefuls - when they need it most.

In the words of Jonathan Edwards, Olympic gold medallist, World Record Holder and Lloyds TSB 2012 Ambassador: ‘Being an athlete can be a lonely life and you frequently face times of self-doubt. For someone to come in at this stage can make the difference between continuing with your dream or giving up.’

So, each year until 2012, with the help of SportsAid, Lloyds TSB will be helping to keep the dream alive for 250 young and emerging sportspeople.

We’ve created our Local Heroes programme because it’s a clear way to demonstrate our vision for 2012 – to inspire and support young people and communities all over Britain. Feedback from staff and customers, sports fans and non sports fans alike,  made it clear they wanted to support young athletes in their local community and help them share in the excitement of Britain’s journey to 2012.
